Flagging sales of its soft drinks have prompted PepsiCo (PEP -0.29%) to introduce a new sweetener mix to its Diet Pepsi line of products. The company has been steadily losing market share in North America to competitors such as Coca-Cola Co (KO -0.43%) and Dr Pepper Snapple (DPS +0.04%). PepsiCo is hoping that its latest attempt at reinvigorating its flagship drink will arrest this long-standing trend.

Is Yum Brands having a problem in China?
Shares of Yum Brands (YUM +1.77%) closed down 1% Thursday on reports from China alleging that suppliers to the companys KFC chain had injected antiviral drugs and growth hormones into the chickens. Chinas Internet sites, such as Sina Weibo, have seen outrage and calls for a boycott of KFC until consumes can be sure its food is safe. (The alleged actions by suppliers would be in violation of Chinese food safety regulations.)
